bio info
In 1982, I started classes at the Museum School at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.  I took classes for 10 years, weekends and summers, mainly studying with the renowned artist, Joel Babb, who believed in the old system of academic training.  Joel is a featured artist at Vose Galleries, Boston, and was one of the first artists to be invited when they started to feature living artists.  I received a thorough training in painting, drawing, sculpture, and design, as well as art history and other related subjects. In the summer of 1983, I studied at the Art Students League in NY City, concentrating in oil painting, still life, portrait, the model with Jack Faragasso and David Laffel, and drawing from life with Gustav Rehberger. I work from time to time with master artists David Curtis and Mark Hayden.

I have taken workshops in Italy, Austria, Maine, Connecticut, Florida, Canada, New Mexico and Massachusetts, and have joined the Newburyport Art Association (NAA); The Rockport Art Association, Rockport, MA,; The North Shore Art Association (NSAA) in Gloucester, MA; and the Abstract Art Group of New England (AAGNE) to build friendships with area artists and gain local recognition. Through the Haverhill Art Association I paint portraits twice a month.

I maintain a studio and presentation space in my home, and publish my own website and blogs, as well as other social media sites.  I try to paint every day.

artist statement
Art is a vocation. I am transfixed by color and light and the beauty of balance and texture. When I am working, some works go beyond words and thought to another place like a dream state. I am striving to acquire a complete understanding of various forms of art and a facility with it to express my concepts. With landscape work, I am inspired by a scene and strive to share my impression of the place. It’s a wonderful feeling of accomplishment and personal satisfaction to have an idea of something or a way to interpret something and to produce or create it–-sharing the beauty of this thing–-regardless of whether it is a thought that is shared or a sight or a way of seeing.

With still-life work, I am intrigued by options of design and light and color and enjoy translating that to create a painterly impression. With abstract work, I usually have an elementary idea then allow it to grow as I go along. It is completely developmental--one thing building on another. The project feeds on itself until it is what it is.

I continue to explore many diverse visual art forms. This is exciting and I am enthused, and my Gemini nature is challenged to do several things at once. I work towards personal satisfaction, acceptance and recognition by the art community and the public.
